About Us

Our purpose is to give village kids in India the support they need to complete a successful education.

We are a humanitarian organisation that provides short and medium-term assistance to more than 730 families in India.

Teachers and coordinators are paid directly and appointed locally. They are the grassroots of the program that reaches where only they can reach.

A snapshot of Indian village life:

Indian villages are places of poverty. The parents are daily wage earners and work late in the evening for the survival of the family, while the children stay in the home by themselves until the parents come. There is no-one to help them in their school studies. This makes it difficult for children to do well, compounded by a severe lack of teacher training and expertise in the schools they attend. Many village schools record attendance, provide the daily breakfast program, then send the kids home as they themselves don’t know how to teach.

Our newest centres are in Bihar, where there is the most desperate need for educational support. Here we are working with the poorest of the poor, the outcasts, who are from the lowest caste, as well as children from the red-light district. They are rejected from the schools and have come to call our tuition program “School”. These children have found a step that wasn’t available to them before.

13 year old Rithika was very disruptive and difficult to handle, but now she has settled down completely, she attends tuition and is learning to machine sew. The teacher in her village is offering this to girls on top of the tuition program to give them a chance to make a living. 13 is the common age of marriage for girls in Bihar.

How the Tuition Program works

New Way Ministries started its Tuition Program in January 2016.
The goal is to establish tuition centres in the poorest villages, where kids can come every evening and be helped in their studies by a teacher. Healthy snacks and necessary stationary are provided during tuition times. Teachers and coordinators run children’s activities and link in with cultural celebrations in these same villages  to increase positive social interactions and connections within the community. These events are always mobilised through community led consultation. We are seeing consistent improvements in behaviour, educational results, and living conditions across all centres. One of our teachers is invited to the local government school this month to speak to teachers and students, as they are very impressed with the changes they see in that group of kids.
